MP, Oct 11 : In a major disciplinary crackdown, Madhya Pradesh police suspended 12 personnel, including a woman DSP and a police station in-charge, over two separate incidents involving a fatal assault and misappropriation of seized funds.
In the first case, two constables from Piplani police station, Santosh Bamaniya and Saurabh Arya, were suspended after CCTV footage showed them thrashing 21-year old Udit Gaiki with wooden sticks on Friday around 1:30 AM in Indrapuri. The youth reportedly succumbed to injuries. An inquiry into the assault has been initiated, confirmed DCP Vivek Singh.
In a separate incident, DSP Pooja Pandey, serving as SDOP in Seoni district, along with nine other police personnel, was suspended for allegedly embezzling Rs 1.5 crore from a total of Rs 2.96 crore seized from a suspected hawala trader, Sohan Parmar, on October 9. Jabalpur Zone IG Pramod Verma ordered the inquiry after the trader filed a complaint alleging underreporting of the seized cash.
Among the suspended are SDOP Pooja Pandey, Bandol police station in charge Sub Inspector Arpit Bhairam, Constable Neeraj Rajput, and seven other staff members, including the DSP’s driver and official gunmen. The action comes as part of the internal investigation into corruption and misconduct in the state police force.
The Madhya Pradesh government has stated that strict measures will be enforced to uphold accountability and transparency within the police department.
