24×7 Power Supply Reaches 1.25 Lakh Households in Srinagar: CM Omar Abdullah

83 more areas added under RDSS as nearly half of Srinagar gets uninterrupted electricity

Jammu, Dec 24: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday announced that 108 areas in Srinagar are now receiving uninterrupted, round the clock electricity supply, benefiting nearly 1.25 lakh households across the city.

The Chief Minister congratulated the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) for bringing 83 additional areas under the 24-hour power supply regime following the successful implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

“Chief Minister today congratulated KPDCL on successfully making another 83 areas in Srinagar 24-hour power zones after a successful RDSS trial with zero power cuts,” the Office of the Chief Minister said in a post on X.

With the latest inclusion, nearly 48 per cent of Srinagar now enjoys uninterrupted electricity supply. Abdullah said similar infrastructure upgrades are underway in other districts as part of the government’s plan to ensure reliable 24×7 power across Jammu and Kashmir.

The RDSS, launched by the central government in July 2021, aims to improve the operational efficiency and financial sustainability of power distribution utilities while reducing technical and commercial losses. Officials said the project in Srinagar involves major infrastructure upgrades and the installation of smart meters to curb power losses and improve service delivery.
