3 Kg Gold Worth Rs 4.03 Crore Seized From Passenger at Delhi Airport

Customs officers uncover concealed gold rods during baggage inspection of an Indian passenger arriving from Dubai.

NEW DELHI, Oct 19: Customs officials seized 3.2 kg of gold rods valued at approximately Rs 4.03 crore from an Indian passenger arriving from Dubai at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, according to an official statement issued on Monday.

The passenger was intercepted by Customs personnel on October 19 following spot profiling, the statement said.

During a thorough examination of his baggage, officials recovered the gold rods concealed inside a floor spring, a mechanical device fitted beneath the floor to control a door’s movement and ensure automatic closing.

Investigators suspect that the device was used to hide the gold and avoid detection during the passenger’s arrival in India.

A case has been registered under the Customs Act, 1962, and further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the attempted smuggling and determine whether other individuals were involved, the statement added.
