Indore, Mar 18 — Seven people lost their lives after a fire erupted following an explosion at an electric vehicle (EV) charging point outside a three storey house in Brajeshwari Annex Colony, Indore, early Wednesday morning, officials confirmed.
Explosion and Blaze Details
The incident occurred between 3:30 am and 4:30 am. Police reported that a car was being charged outside the residence when an explosion at the charging point triggered a fire that quickly engulfed the house. Cooking gas cylinders inside the building also exploded, intensifying the blaze.
Rescue Operations and Challenges
Authorities faced difficulties entering the house as the doors were equipped with electronic locks. Three residents trapped inside were rescued, while a child was reported missing and is being searched for by local authorities. Nearly ten people were believed to be inside the house at the time of the fire.
Aftermath and Hospital Response
The bodies of the seven deceased were transported to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College hospital. Two individuals rescued from the fire received first aid and were subsequently discharged after requesting treatment at another facility, said Dr. Arvind Ghanghoria, Dean of the hospital.
Investigation and Safety Concerns
Officials are investigating the cause of the explosion at the EV charging point. The tragedy highlights potential safety risks associated with residential EV charging setups and the need for proper precautions to prevent similar accidents in the future.
