ACB Registers Disproportionate Assets Case Against Naib Tehsildar in Rajouri

RAJOURI, Oct 8: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has registered a case against Surjit Singh, Naib Tehsildar (Election) posted at the Deputy District Election Office in Rajouri, for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. The case, registered under FIR No. 05/2025 under Section 5(1)(e) read with 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, follows a detailed verification process initiated by the ACB based on credible inputs.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Singh had accumulated vast wealth in his name as well as in the names of his family members that far exceeded his legitimate income. These assets include a double-story house in the Ramban district, substantial bank deposits, multiple fixed deposits, LIC policies, a high-end Swift car, expensive electronic gadgets, luxurious household items, costly jewellery, and other movable and immovable properties. The findings indicated that the expenditure incurred and assets acquired were grossly disproportionate to his known income sources.

Acting on the findings, the ACB obtained search warrants from the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Doda. Subsequent searches were conducted at three locations — his residence at Maitra in Ramban, another property in Janipur, Jammu, and a government residential quarter at DC Colony, Rajouri. These searches were carried out in the presence of magistrates and independent witnesses to ensure transparency and legal compliance.

Officials said the raids led to the recovery of several incriminating documents and evidence, which are now under scrutiny. The agency is also examining the financial trail and possible involvement of others in the accumulation of the disproportionate assets. The ACB has stated that further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of illegal wealth and identify any additional properties or financial holdings linked to the accused.
