18-08-2023 : Rahul Gandhi, a prominent leader of the Congress party and a member of the Lok Sabha, has voiced strong concerns over what he perceives as attempts by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to assert control over key constitutional institutions. During the second day of his visit to the Ladakh district within the Union Territory, Rahul Gandhi highlighted the formidable institutions that emerged after India’s independence – the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Planning Commission, and Armed Forces, among others – all rooted in the nation’s Constitution.
In an engaging interaction with the youth, Rahul Gandhi expressed his apprehension about the current state of affairs in the country. He alleged that the RSS is actively attempting to establish influence within critical bodies that play a pivotal role in the nation’s governance. According to him, this extends to the point where the RSS is influencing the functioning of various Ministries, leading to a perceived infiltration of the nation’s key decision-making processes.
He underscored his claims by revealing that there have been instances where government officers have allegedly revealed their obligation to seek directions from the RSS.
During his second day in Ladakh, Rahul Gandhi engaged with the region’s youth and even took part in a spirited game of football. His visit also encompassed discussions with senior Congress leaders of the Union Territory, where he delved into the prevailing political scenario and the state of affairs within the party. His arrival was met with a warm and enthusiastic welcome by a substantial crowd, indicative of the anticipation surrounding his visit.
This visit holds particular significance due to Rahul Gandhi’s past travels as part of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra.’ While he had allocated considerable time to Jammu and Kashmir during that journey – traveling from Lakhanpur to Srinagar – he had not previously visited the Union Territory of Ladakh. Therefore, this recent visit serves as an effort to bridge the gap in his previous travels and engage with the people of Ladakh.
It is notable that the Congress leaders apprised Rahul Gandhi of the ongoing situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh.
