Adani Defence Partners with MTAR Tech, Targets ₹15,000-Crore AMCA Stealth Fighter Project

The partnership targets India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft prototype, with first flight expected by 2028–29 and production by 2035.

New Delhi, Oct 14: Adani Defence & Aerospace has partnered with Hyderabad-based MTAR Technologies to bid for the contract to design and build the prototype of India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), a stealth fighter project valued at around ₹15,000 crore, according to market sources. An Adani spokesperson declined to comment on the development.

MTAR Technologies has a strong track record in the aerospace and defence sector, supplying propulsion and electro-pneumatic subsystems for ISRO’s Chandrayaan-2 and Mangalyaan missions, and providing complex assemblies for DRDO, including components for the Agni missile series.

The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), responsible for the AMCA programme, had issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) in June to identify Indian companies capable of developing and testing prototypes of the stealth fighter. The EoI received responses from seven companies or consortiums, including HAL, Tata Advanced Systems, Bharat Forge, Larsen & Toubro, Axiscades Technologies, Goodluck India, and BrahMos Aerospace.

Some applicants have formed consortiums to enhance their technical capabilities: Bharat Forge with BEML and Data Patterns, L&T with BEL, while Tata Advanced Systems applied independently.

Following evaluation of EoI responses, ADA and DRDO will issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) to build five AMCA prototypes and one structural test specimen, with selection based on technical expertise, financial stability, and technology transfer potential.

The first AMCA prototype flight is expected by 2028–29, with series production projected to start by 2035. The Indian Air Force plans to induct about 126 aircraft across seven fighter squadrons.
