Adani Group Announces ₹63,000 Crore Investment in Assam Power Projects

Mega thermal and pumped storage projects mark largest private investment in Northeast

Mumbai, Nov 15 : The Adani Group on Friday announced a massive ₹63,000 crore investment in Assam, aimed at boosting the state’s power generation capacity through two major electricity projects.

Two Adani Group companies have received Letters of Award (LoA) from the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL) for long-term power supply from a greenfield thermal power plant and a pumped storage facility.

According to the group, Adani Power Ltd will invest ₹48,000 crore to set up a 3,200 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Assam. The 4×800 MW project will be developed under a design, build, finance, own and operate model, with phased commissioning beginning in December 2030 and full commissioning by December 2032.

Additionally, Adani Green Energy Ltd will invest ₹15,000 crore to establish two pumped storage plants with a combined capacity of 2,700 MW in the state.

“These landmark initiatives underscore the Adani Group’s strategic focus on the advancement of India’s northeastern region, aligning with Chairman Gautam Adani’s pledge in February 2025 to invest ₹50,000 crore in the region’s development and growth,” the company said in a statement.

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said the Northeast is becoming a “vital frontier” in India’s growth story.
“Our 3,200 MW thermal power project and 2,700 MW PSP projects in Assam represent the largest private sector investment in the region and are firm steps towards energy security, industrial development, and job creation,” he added.

The company said the new projects will not only strengthen Assam’s power infrastructure but also benefit the entire northeastern corridor by driving industrial growth and community development.

Adani Power, currently operating 18.15 GW across 12 thermal plants and one solar plant, aims to scale up its generation capacity to 42 GW by 2031–32, the group noted.
