Adani issue: BJP hit back at billionaire George Soros

17-02-2023 : The Adani group, which has been under severe pressure since US short-seller Hindenburg Research allegedly accused it of accounting fraud, has recently faced accusations of weakening Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hold on the Indian government.

Philanthropist and billionaire George Soros stated in a speech at the Munich Security Conference that the Adani group’s turmoil could open the door to a democratic revival in the country, while Modi would have to answer questions from foreign investors and Parliament on the allegations.

In response, the BJP claimed that Soros was not only targeting the Prime Minister but also the Indian democratic system. Soros has denied the accusations and claimed that the remarks were taken out of context.

The senior advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Kanchan Gupta, took to Twitter, stating that the faces behind repeated regime change stands exposed, claiming that Soros had a subversive regime change agenda to undermine India. Soros went on to talk about climate change, open and closed societies, and the state of democracy around the world.

The comments made by George Soros regarding the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have sparked a heated debate in India, with many politicians and commentators taking sides. Many have criticized Soros for interfering in India’s internal affairs and attempting to undermine its democracy.

The controversy also highlights the growing influence of foreign investors and their ability to impact domestic politics in India, which has been a point of contention for some time. As the Adani Group’s troubles continue to unfold, it remains to be seen how this will affect the political landscape and its economy.
