LUCKNOW, Nov 3: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday described Ayodhya’s Deepotsav celebrations as a reflection of social unity, cultural heritage and shared devotion, saying the festival encourages participation from people belonging to different sections of society.
As preparations gather momentum for the upcoming celebrations, Adityanath took to social media platform X to highlight the importance of the annual event, stating that it conveys a strong message of harmony and collective involvement.
The chief minister said Deepotsav had evolved into a major cultural celebration since its introduction in 2017 under the BJP government. He credited the initiative with bringing Ayodhya’s religious and cultural traditions into wider public focus.
Targeting previous governments, Adityanath alleged that administrations before 2017 had neglected the cultural identity of the state and relied on caste-based divisions for political purposes.
He maintained that his government’s approach had focused on strengthening the cultural significance of Ayodhya, regarded as the birthplace of Lord Ram, while encouraging people from different backgrounds to participate in the festivities.
According to the chief minister, the celebrations have grown beyond religious rituals to become a collective occasion involving saints, religious leaders, students, sanitation workers, potters, traders and other members of society.
He said the participation of people from different professions and social backgrounds demonstrates how cultural traditions can bring communities together.
Adityanath also acknowledged the guidance of religious saints and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in promoting the celebrations, adding that the event reflects a broader vision of social inclusion.
Emphasising the significance of public participation, he said Deepotsav gives equal importance to individuals irrespective of their caste or social position.
The chief minister observed that the lighting of lamps by people from different walks of life symbolises a shared commitment to unity and mutual harmony.
He said the festival’s message extends beyond the illumination of homes and public spaces, representing the collective spirit of society.
Adityanath further stated that the celebrations demonstrate how cultural traditions can strengthen social relationships and encourage a sense of belonging among citizens.
The annual Deepotsav in Ayodhya has emerged as one of Uttar Pradesh’s prominent cultural events, attracting devotees, visitors and participants from different parts of the country.
The celebrations feature traditional rituals, religious programmes and large-scale illumination, placing the holy city at the centre of festivities associated with Diwali.
The chief minister said the central message of Deepotsav was to build a society where participation, shared traditions and mutual respect take precedence over social divisions.
He described the festival as an expression of an inclusive society in which people come together through common cultural values and collective celebrations.
