JAMMU: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta on Sunday appealed to the people to adopt Swadeshi products as far as possible to make the country self-reliant and boost up the local economy.
The BJP stalwart leader was speaking at separate functions held to celebrate the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, Sunil Sethi, Vinay Gupta District President, Pawan Singh, Bharat Bhushan Mandal President, and Narinder Gupta Koki also accompanied the former Deputy Chief Minister.
In a function held here at Satwari in connection with Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, Kavinder paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation while asking people to adopt the Swadeshi Products to fortify the local economy which in turn will help the country to become self-reliant and a strong economy.
The BJP functionary also launched a Swachhta Abhiyan at Satwari Crossing wherein a large number of party activists and prominent people of the area were present.
Kavinder asked the people to make their surroundings neat and clean reminding them of the call given by Mahatma Gandhi that cleanliness is next to Godliness. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought in a much-needed change in the country by conceiving and implementing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and it is now the duty of every single citizen to ensure cleanliness in every nook and corner of the country starting from the vicinity of their own homes and hearth.
Later, Kavinder also took part in a separate function in Gandhi Nagar Constituency to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri wherein he dwelled on the simplicity and honesty of the former Prime Minister of the country who had set an example of truthfulness, dignity, and uprightness.
Kavinder said that the people should take cues from the life history of Lal Bahadur Shastri and try to follow his footprints to become meaningful citizens of the country as this is the need of the hour.
