JAMMU, OCT 18- Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, K. K. Sharma, today visited Agriculture Complex, Talab Tillo, Jammu, to inspect various activities being undertaken here at Jammu Province Agriculture Experimental Farm (JPAEF).
During his visit, Advisor Sharma inspected the Naturally Ventilated Poly Green House structures where exotic vegetable crops are being grown under protected conditions. He also inspected the production of vegetable seedlings under High Tech Poly Green Houses.
Advisor also took stock of activities like Ornamental Plant production and Herbal Garden maintained by Floriculture Development Nursery. He was apprised that in order to extend the area of vegetable crops in Jammu under the “Area Expansion Programme” the seedlings of different vegetable crops have been raised in the Naturally Ventilated Poly Green House (NVPGH) established under the centrally sponsored Scheme. The healthy and disease-free seedlings of different vegetable crops and varieties are being raised for distribution among the vegetable growers of Jammu areas to get the early crop of vegetables.
While interacting with the officers, the Advisor discussed various issues regarding switching over from traditional farming to the production of High-Value crops to raise the economic status of farmers. He emphasized on mechanization of Agriculture in the Jammu region by ensuring easy availability of Combine Harvesters, Tractors, Rotavators, Multi-Seed Drills, Paddy Transplanters to the farmers on subsidy.
The advisor stressed for providing subsidy on Borewells and further linking with micro-irrigation systems like sprinklers and drip irrigation. He also called for enhancing the seed production and processing capacity from the current level for the facilitation of farmers.
Joint Director Agriculture (Extension) Jammu, B. K. Chandan, Chief Agriculture Officer, Jammu S. A. S. Reen, Agronomist Vegetables Jammu, J. C. Raina, and other officers of the department were also present on the occasion.
