AI, High-Resolution Cameras Help Identify Vande Bharat Stone Pelting Accused: Vaishnaw

Railways deploy advanced surveillance tools to enhance passenger safety and track offenders

New Delhi, Mar 18: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said that advanced surveillance systems, including high resolution cameras and artificial intelligence, enabled authorities to identify individuals involved in a stone-pelting incident targeting a Vande Bharat train in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing the Lok Sabha, the minister highlighted that even a small visual input captured by onboard cameras was sufficient for authorities to trace the accused using AI-based analysis, leading investigators directly to the suspect’s residence in the Muzaffarnagar region.

He emphasised that the Vande Bharat trains are equipped with multiple safety mechanisms aimed at protecting passengers and infrastructure. Among these features is an anti-climbing system designed to prevent coaches from mounting over each other during collisions, thereby reducing potential damage.

The use of intelligent monitoring systems marks a significant step in strengthening railway security, with officials increasingly relying on technology-driven solutions to respond swiftly to threats and ensure safer travel experiences.
