Sudhanshu Khuntia killed near Ransinghpur; police investigate motive as crime concerns rise in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: A laboratory assistant posted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Bhubaneswar was shot dead by unidentified assailants early Monday near the outskirts of the city, highlighting rising safety concerns in the state capital.

Sudhanshu Khuntia, employed on an outsourcing basis at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, was attacked while riding his motorcycle to work near Ransinghpur under Khandagiri police station jurisdiction. One of the bullets pierced his chest, and he succumbed to his injuries on the spot, police confirmed.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Following the shooting, a brief clash reportedly broke out in the area, further escalating tension.

Residents have expressed growing concern over the spike in crimes in Bhubaneswar, citing incidents like these as signs of emboldened criminals exploiting lax law enforcement. Authorities have launched an investigation to trace the culprits and ensure heightened security in the area.
