Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday criticized the BJP-led central government over its Goods and Services Tax (GST) policies, alleging that the current framework is hurting businesses. He claimed that GST rates have been increased on raw materials while reduced on finished goods, creating a “GST Golmaal” (mess) that is adversely affecting traders and manufacturers.
In a post on his WhatsApp channel, Yadav said the move is straining businesses and damaging customer-dealer relationships, as customers struggle to find affordable products while traders face rising input costs.
“The current GST structure disproportionately burdens manufacturers and small traders, making it difficult for them to sustain operations and offer fair pricing,” Yadav stated, calling for a comprehensive review and overhaul of GST policies.
Highlighting the impact on small and medium-sized enterprises, the SP chief urged the government to adopt a more business-friendly approach that supports domestic trade and ensures a fair taxation system.
Yadav’s comments underscore growing concerns among businesses and traders over GST rates and signal the need for policies that balance revenue collection with the interests of the business community.
