New Delhi, Nov 18 : Investigating agencies have intensified their probe into Al-Falah University following the Red Fort blast in Delhi, placing the wife and daughter of arrested professor Dr. Nisar-ul-Hassan under house arrest within the university campus. Both are being questioned in connection with the alleged terror module linked to the explosion.
Authorities have also restricted the movement of ten MBBS students, preventing them from leaving the campus. Their mobile phones have been seized for forensic analysis, including call records, chats, and stored data, to trace potential links to the suspected network.
Dr. Nisar, a faculty member in the university’s Department of Medicine, is accused of maintaining contact with alleged operatives, including Dr. Umar Nabi, who detonated the explosive in Delhi, as well as Dr. Mujammil Shakil and Dr. Shaheen Saeed. He initially fled after the incident but was later arrested in West Bengal.
Sources revealed that Dr. Nisar had been under scrutiny even before joining Al-Falah University. In 2023, he was dismissed by the Jammu & Kashmir administration while serving as an assistant professor at SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, for activities deemed a threat to state security. Alleged connections with Dr. Umar, Dr. Adil, and Dr. Mujammil reportedly facilitated his appointment at Al-Falah University, where background verification was reportedly lax.
Following his arrest, agencies have focused on his family. His wife, Dr. Suraiya, a gynaecologist at the university hospital, and his daughter Nibiya, a second year MBBS student, are being questioned within their campus residence. Their phones have been confiscated, and they have been instructed not to leave or communicate externally while the investigation continues.
