All-Party Meeting Resolves to Uphold Peace, Condemns Pahalgam Attack: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah

SRINAGAR, Apr 24: In a significant display of unity and resolve, a high-level All-Party Meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was held in Srinagar today, wherein a joint resolution was unanimously adopted condemning the barbaric terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam. The meeting strongly appealed to all sections of society to maintain calm, uphold communal harmony, and work collectively towards lasting peace and sustainable development in Jammu and Kashmir.

While reading out the resolution, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep anguish and sorrow over the tragic incident that occurred on April 22 in Pahalgam, where innocent civilians, including tourists, fell victim to a senseless and cowardly act of terror. He said that the leaders across political ideologies, religious communities, youth groups, and civil society must rise above divisive narratives and jointly stand guard against those attempting to destabilize the region.

“We, the participants of this All-Party Meeting in Jammu and Kashmir, are deeply shocked and heartbroken by the brutal attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, where innocent lives were targeted in a reprehensible act of violence. We collectively pass this resolution to express our united stand in rejecting terrorism in all its forms and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to peace and brotherhood,” Omar said.

He added that the meeting unequivocally condemns the attack in the strongest possible terms, calling it a heinous and inhumane act that strikes at the very roots of Kashmiriyat, a culture rooted in tolerance, hospitality, and peaceful coexistence. “Such cowardly acts are a direct assault on the inclusive spirit of India and the centuries-old tradition of harmony that defines our region,” he said.

The Chief Minister emphasized that all political parties in Jammu and Kashmir are united in their resolve to ensure that the perpetrators of this ghastly act are swiftly brought to justice. “We remain steadfast in our support to all ongoing efforts aimed at dismantling the machinery of terror. No act of cowardice can ever deter our shared determination or weaken our collective spirit,” he asserted.

The resolution also acknowledged and appreciated the immediate steps taken by the Union Government in response to the incident, noting that such proactive measures will further strengthen the fight against terrorism.

Paying heartfelt tributes to the victims, the meeting extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Special homage was paid to Shaheed Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a courageous ponywallah who lost his life while trying to save tourists during the attack. “We salute the ultimate sacrifice of Adil Hussain Shah, whose bravery and selflessness in the face of grave danger exemplify the true essence of Kashmiriyat. His heroism will forever remain etched in our collective memory as a beacon of courage and humanity,” Omar stated.

The Chief Minister also commended the people of Kashmir for standing united in this hour of grief and for extending wholehearted support to tourists across the Valley. He acknowledged the spontaneous and peaceful protests witnessed in towns and villages throughout Jammu and Kashmir as a powerful demonstration of the people’s rejection of violence and unwavering faith in peace and communal harmony.

“We are proud of our citizens who have shown maturity, restraint, and solidarity in the face of adversity. Their response reflects our shared values of mutual respect, democratic principles, and the rule of law,” Omar said.

The resolution concluded with an urgent appeal to all States and Union Territories across the country to ensure the safety and dignity of Kashmiri students and citizens living or traveling outside Jammu and Kashmir. It underscored the need for a unified national approach to protect them from any form of harassment, discrimination, or intimidation, emphasizing that the ideals of unity and justice must prevail in every corner of the country.

“The safety and well-being of every Kashmiri, especially those living far from home, is a collective responsibility. We call upon the entire nation to stand with us in protecting the spirit of unity, constitutional rights, and the shared dream of a peaceful, inclusive India,” the resolution affirmed.
