All Valuables Donated to Ram Temple Are Safe, Trust Holds Over 30 Kg Gold-Like Items: Treasurer

Amid controversy over alleged donation embezzlement, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust says records of 2,926 valuable items are intact, with more than 30 kg of gold like and 1,518 kg of silver-like articles in its custody.

Ayodhya, July 7: Amid the ongoing controversy over alleged irregularities in donations made to the Ram temple, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on Tuesday asserted that all valuable offerings received from devotees are safe and fully accounted for, while also disclosing the quantity of gold like and silver like articles currently in its possession.

Trust treasurer Swami Govind Dev Giri said the temple body presently holds more than 30 kilograms of gold-like items and 1,518 kilograms of silver-like articles, along with other precious offerings made by devotees. He maintained that a total of 2,926 valuable articles donated to the temple have been properly documented and remain secure in the Trust’s custody.

The statement came at a time when the temple Trust is facing political and public scrutiny over allegations of embezzlement of donations. In an apparent attempt to address concerns and reinforce transparency, the Trust on Monday showcased several high-value offerings before the media in Ayodhya, including a gold Ramcharitmanas and a diamond studded necklace.

According to Giri, the Trust has maintained a complete record of all valuables received at the temple and there is no discrepancy in the stock of donated items. He said every article received from devotees is entered into official records and preserved under a system designed to ensure security and accountability.

The disclosure is significant because questions had recently been raised over the management and accounting of donations made to the Ram temple, one of the country’s most prominent religious sites. The temple has attracted massive public devotion, with pilgrims from across India and abroad contributing cash, jewellery, precious metals and other valuable items as offerings.

In this context, the Trust’s move to publicly display some of the donated items appears aimed at countering allegations and reassuring devotees that their contributions are being handled responsibly. The articles shown to journalists included ornate and high-value offerings that reflect the scale of devotion associated with the temple.

Temple officials indicated that the offerings displayed before the media represented only a small portion of the total valuables received. The larger inventory, according to the Trust, includes a range of precious objects donated over time by worshippers who consider the temple a sacred destination of immense religious significance.

Giri’s remarks also sought to underline that the Trust’s accounting process is structured and verifiable. By stating the exact number of valuable articles and the total quantity of gold-like and silver-like items in custody, the Trust attempted to project confidence in its internal record-keeping and asset management practices.

The row over alleged embezzlement has drawn considerable attention because of the symbolic and religious importance of the Ram temple. Any question regarding the handling of donations to the shrine is likely to generate strong public reaction, especially among devotees who contribute in faith and expect the offerings to be preserved and used appropriately.

The Trust’s clarification, therefore, is not merely an administrative statement but also an effort to protect public confidence. By emphasising that all donated valuables are safe and accounted for, the temple body is seeking to dispel suspicion and prevent the controversy from undermining the institution’s credibility.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has played a central role in overseeing the construction, management and administration of the Ram temple complex in Ayodhya. Since the consecration of the temple, the flow of donations and offerings has remained substantial, making transparent management of assets a matter of both religious trust and public accountability.

While Giri did not elaborate on the nature of the allegations that prompted the controversy, his statement suggests the Trust is aware of the need for openness in handling the issue. Publicly sharing details of the inventory and allowing the media to view select valuables can be seen as part of a strategy to demonstrate that there is no concealment regarding the temple’s donated assets.

The mention of “gold-like” and “silver-like” items is also notable, as it indicates the articles may include ornaments, decorative objects, ritual items and crafted offerings that resemble or contain precious metals in varying forms. Such donations are common at major temples, where devotees often present jewellery, crowns, miniature idols, engraved texts and ceremonial objects as a mark of reverence.

The gold Ramcharitmanas displayed by the Trust is among the notable items mentioned in the media interaction, symbolising both devotional artistry and material value. Likewise, the diamond-studded necklace shown to reporters highlights the scale and variety of offerings the temple has received since opening to devotees.

As the controversy continues to attract attention, the Trust’s public assertion may help shape the immediate narrative, but broader questions could still persist depending on the nature of the allegations and whether any further inquiry is initiated. For now, the Trust has taken the position that all valuables are intact, documented and secure.

The statement from the treasurer is likely to be closely watched by devotees, political observers and those following developments around the temple administration. In a matter as sensitive as religious donations, the credibility of records and the confidence of worshippers are central to maintaining trust in the institution.

For the moment, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has sought to put the controversy to rest by presenting figures, inventory details and visual evidence of donated valuables, while firmly asserting that nothing is missing from its custody.
