Alwar Cyber Fraud Crackdown: 2 Lakh SIM Cards Blocked in Three Years, Truckers Used for Interstate Smuggling

Police dismantle interstate SIM smuggling network to curb online scams in Mewat region

ALWAR,Feb 14 : Rajasthan Police have intensified their cyber fraud crackdown in Alwar, blocking nearly two lakh SIM cards and mobile IMEI numbers over the past three years to disrupt organised online scam networks operating in the Mewat belt.

According to district data, 5,034 IMEI numbers and 82,769 SIM cards were deactivated between January 1, 2025, and January 31, 2026. Since 2023, a total of 1,90,051 SIM cards and associated devices have been shut down as part of sustained enforcement efforts.

Investigations revealed that SIM cards were allegedly transported into the region through truck drivers arriving from states such as West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya and Karnataka. These connections are believed to have supplied telecom resources to cyber fraud operators based in Alwar and neighbouring Bharatpur.

Once fraudulent activity is traced, the linked SIM cards are disabled and corresponding mobile devices blocked via their IMEI numbers. Authorities said complaints registered through the national cyber helpline 1930 are processed promptly to prevent further misuse.

Alwar Superintendent of Police Sudhir Chaudhary noted that the district had gained notoriety for digital scams, leading to closer coordination with police units in Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Law enforcement teams from across the country frequently visit the district to conduct arrests in fraud-related cases.

Officials maintain that targeting SIM circulation and device access has helped weaken the operational structure of cybercrime groups and contributed to a decline in reported incidents.
