Amit Shah Hails PM Modi’s 25-Year Journey in Government, Calls It a ‘Golden and Epoch-Making Day’

Amit Shah says Modi’s uninterrupted 25 year tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister marks a major milestone in India’s democratic journey.

GURUGRAM (HARYANA), OCT 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 year journey at the helm of government as a landmark period in the history of Indian democracy, highlighting his transition from Gujarat Chief Minister to Prime Minister.

Speaking at the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha – Seva Jyoti Yatra’ in Gurugram, Shah said October 7 represented a “golden and epoch-making day” as Modi completed 25 uninterrupted years in public office as the head of a government.

Shah noted that Modi began his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, before becoming Prime Minister in 2014. He has since completed three consecutive terms as Prime Minister.

The Home Minister said the occasion was being commemorated through the ‘Seva Jyoti Yatra’, which has been organised across districts in the country. He appealed to people to participate in the programme and celebrate Modi’s long public-service journey.

Shah said a group of young participants would carry the ‘Seva Jyoti’ torch to a designated location near the venue before installing it there as part of the commemorative programme.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and several other leaders attended the Gurugram event.

Earlier, Modi addressed a ‘Seva Jyoti’ programme at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, where he paid tribute to grassroots workers and swayamsevaks for their contribution to public service.

Reflecting on his own journey, the Prime Minister said he had never considered himself alone, crediting the dedication of numerous swayamsevaks and party workers who have continued to work for the country.

Modi praised those he described as committed to preserving India’s cultural ethos and serving society. He said the guiding principle of such workers was rooted in the belief that they were “sevaks” and servants of humanity.

The Prime Minister expressed his respect for workers and volunteers who, according to him, have continued their service with dedication and commitment.

Modi’s 25-year tenure at the head of a government began with his appointment as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001. After serving as the state’s Chief Minister for more than 12 years, he became Prime Minister in May 2014.

He returned to office after the 2019 general elections and secured a third consecutive term following the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The anniversary has been marked by programmes highlighting public service and grassroots participation, with the ‘Seva Jyoti Yatra’ serving as a nationwide commemorative initiative.

The events in Delhi and Gurugram brought together BJP workers, supporters and leaders to reflect on Modi’s political journey and his continued role in national governance.
