Amit Shah: “J&K on Path to Lasting Peace, Violence Plummets Since Article 370 Revocation”

J&K Making Steady Progress Toward Lasting Peace, Says Home Minister

New Delhi, Feb 16: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that Jammu and Kashmir is moving steadily toward lasting peace, with incidents of violence sharply declining since the abrogation of Article 370. Addressing the 79th Raising Day celebrations of Delhi Police, Shah noted that the country’s internal security landscape has transformed remarkably over the past decade.

He highlighted that violence in Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and Left Wing Extremism-affected regions has fallen by over 80 percent. “The day is not far when these regions will be completely free from violence. Maoism will be eradicated from the country by March 31, 2026,” Shah stated.

During the event, he e-inaugurated the newly constructed Delhi Police Special Cell Integrated Headquarters, built at a cost of approximately Rs 375 crore. Shah described the centre as the nation’s most advanced anti narcotics and anti-terrorism hub, setting a benchmark for police forces across India.

Shah also emphasized reforms in the criminal justice system, saying that with the full implementation of three new criminal laws over the next two years, the time from FIR registration to Supreme Court verdict will be reduced to under three years. He noted that terrorism has now been explicitly defined in criminal law, enabling more effective prosecution.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Shah affirmed that efforts to strengthen national security and ensure enduring peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir remain a top priority.
