NEW DELHI, Feb 3: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Tuesday welcomed the India–US trade deal, saying it will strengthen the strategic partnership and benefit both nations.
Shah took to X to call it “a big day for India-US relations,” highlighting the reduced US tariffs of 18 per cent. “This historic deal will elevate our strategic partnership and greatly benefit both nations and their people. Business between India and the US is set to flourish further,” he said, congratulating PM Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump for the agreement.
Nadda also praised the Prime Minister’s leadership, saying India’s economy has gained new “global confidence and momentum.” He added that the expanded international market for Made in India products would empower youth and farmers, and that the robust partnership promises benefits beyond national borders.
The trade agreement, reached after a phone call between PM Modi and President Trump on Monday, reduces US tariffs on Indian goods to 18 per cent while India eases barriers on US products.
PM Modi expressed delight over the tariff cut for Indian products and emphasized that collaboration between two large economies and the world’s largest democracies unlocks immense opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation. He also hailed President Trump’s leadership in promoting global peace and stability and reaffirmed India’s support for these efforts.
