Amit Shah Says Modi Govt Achieved Permanent Resolutions in Naxalism, Northeast & J&K

Modi Govt Has Delivered Permanent Solutions to Naxalism, Northeast and J&K: Amit Shah

Raipur, Nov 28: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday asserted that the Narendra Modi government has provided “permanent solutions” to India’s three long standing internal security challenges Naxalism, the northeast and Jammu & Kashmir  and expressed confidence that these regions will soon be on par with the rest of the country.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the three day DGP/IGP annual conference in Raipur, Shah said the Modi-led administration has transformed internal security by launching decisive operations against extremism, radicalisation and narcotics. He stressed the need for a “360-degree attack” on drug trafficking and organised crime, and urged state police forces to work in close coordination with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to dismantle networks at local, national and international levels.

Highlighting major gains against left wing extremism, Shah said the Centre has bolstered the security grid by constructing 586 fortified police stations in the last seven years. As a result, Naxal-affected districts have reduced from 126 in 2014 to just 11 today. He expressed confidence that the country will be free from Naxalism before the next DGP–IGP conference.

Shah also cited the nationwide crackdown on the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) as an example of exemplary Centre-state coordination, noting how raids were conducted across multiple locations shortly after the organisation was outlawed.

The home minister said the Modi government’s reforms including strengthening the National Investigation Agency (NIA), making the UAPA more robust, introducing three new criminal laws, and enforcing stricter legislation against narcotics and fugitive offenders—have paved the way for the most modern policing framework in the world.

The 60th edition of the closed-door conference is being held at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur and will see participation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and heads of central police organisations, including Intelligence Bureau chief Tapan Kumar Deka. The conference comes weeks after agencies uncovered a “white-collar” terror module linked to the November 10 car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that claimed 15 lives.

Held under the theme “Viksit Bharat: Security Dimensions,” the event will deliberate on key issues such as left wing extremism, counter terrorism, disaster management, women’s safety, and the use of artificial intelligence and forensic science in policing. Around 600 officers including DGPs, IGPs, DIGs, SPs, and home department heads—are expected to participate to share insights, review progress and outline a roadmap for building a “Surakshit Bharat.”

Since 2014, when Modi shifted the conference outside New Delhi, the annual event has been hosted in various cities including Guwahati, Hyderabad, Pune, Lucknow, Jaipur and Bhubaneswar, promoting wider participation and regional engagement.
