Amit Shah Vows Strong Action Against Drug Menace, Says Modi Government Committed to a Drug-Free India

Home Minister Amit Shah urges decisive action against drug cartels, underscores youth protection as key to India’s future.

New Delhi, Sep 16: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday reiterated the Narendra Modi government’s determination to eradicate all forms of narcotics from India, stressing the need for stronger, coordinated action against drug cartels. He was speaking at the Second National Conference of Heads of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of States and Union Territories, organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

Shah highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a fully developed and secure India by 2047 depends on safeguarding the youth from the perils of drug abuse. “The Modi government is determined to wipe out the drug menace from the country and is making all-out efforts to achieve this goal,” he said.

He pointed out that India’s proximity to major global narcotics supply regions makes it imperative to fight the menace decisively. “There are three types of narcotics cartels at the country’s entry points, from entry points to states, and local distribution through small shops. It is time to deal a big blow to all these cartels,” Shah said, urging officers to take strong action.

During the conference, Shah also initiated the destruction of seized narcotics worth Rs 4,794 crore. He stressed that protecting the youth is critical to achieving India’s goal of becoming a fully developed nation by 2047, noting that youth are the foundation of any great country.

The NCB, he added, continues to coordinate with the GST department, state drug controllers, Income Tax authorities, and financial institutions to dismantle the full drug diversion network.
