NEW DELHI, Aug 15: Amitabh Bachchan has recalled the extraordinary international response to the restored screening of his iconic film Sholay in Italy, sharing a glimpse of the movie’s enduring appeal nearly five decades after its original release.
Bachchan revealed that around 2,000 Italian viewers gathered for the special screening and stayed from late at night until the early hours of the morning to watch the classic.
The actor’s recollection highlights how Ramesh Sippy’s 1975 action drama has continued to find audiences beyond India. Bachchan’s portrayal of Jai, alongside Dharmendra’s Veeru, became one of the defining partnerships in Hindi film history.
Sholay remains a landmark in Indian popular culture, remembered for its characters, dialogues, music and storytelling. Its continued screenings and restoration efforts have helped introduce the classic to newer generations and international audiences.
