Jammu, Nov 9: Showcasing exceptional skill and composure, Amrita Gupta emerged as the champion of the Smart Girls Chess Tournament, securing the Gold Medal along with a cash prize of Rs 500. The tournament, held at Vivek Chess Academy, was conducted on the lines of the All India Smart Girl Chess Tournament organized by the All India Chess Federation (AICF).
The Smart Girls Chess Tournament is a national-level initiative of the AICF aimed at encouraging young female players and strengthening women’s participation in the sport. It attracts promising talents from various age groups and provides a competitive platform for aspiring chess players to test their skills and gain experience.
Vivek Chess Academy, which hosted the event in Jammu, announced that such tournaments will now be organized on a regular basis to nurture the spirit of competition among young girls and to provide them with a consistent opportunity to improve their game. “Any girl from Jammu can participate in these tournaments and benefit from the exposure and training environment,” said the organizers.
In a closely contested event, Nitika secured the second position to claim the Silver Medal, while Anjali finished third and took home the Bronze Medal. The winners were felicitated by noted chess trainer Vivek Bharti, who emphasized that the academy’s efforts were aimed at motivating more girls to take up chess seriously.
“The initiative has been designed to build confidence, strategic thinking, and a sense of healthy competition among girls from different academies across Jammu,” said Bharti while presenting medals to the top performers. The event concluded with a message of empowerment through sports, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for chess among young girls in the region.
