ANANTNAG, Mar 8: In a late-night enforcement operation aimed at curbing illegal mining, Anantnag Police seized three JCB machines and four tractors allegedly being used for unlawful mineral extraction in the Sandren Nala area near Shivpora.

Officials said the action was taken after police received reliable inputs about illegal mining activity taking place during night hours in and around Sandren Nala. Acting swiftly on the information, a police team from Police Post Janglatmandi carried out a raid near Shivpora and found heavy machinery reportedly engaged in unauthorised extraction of minerals.

During the operation, the police party seized the machinery on the spot, including three JCB excavators and four tractors, which were allegedly being used to carry out illegal mining in the area. The seized vehicles have been taken into custody as part of the legal process, officials said.

In connection with the incident, a case has been registered as FIR No. 59/2026 under relevant sections of law, and further investigation has been initiated to identify all persons involved and to determine the scale of the alleged illegal activity.

Reiterating its stance, District Police Anantnag said it remains committed to taking firm action against illegal mining and other unlawful activities that damage the environment and deplete public resources, adding that similar enforcement drives will continue to deter such violations.
