Amaravati, Oct 28: With Cyclone Montha advancing rapidly toward the Andhra Pradesh coast, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday ordered immediate evacuation of people from vulnerable coastal areas to designated relief camps.
Anticipating the cyclone’s severe impact from Tuesday, the Chief Minister directed officials to remain on high alert and ensure that all precautionary measures are in place. During a teleconference with district Collectors, SPs, and senior officials, Naidu emphasized the need to provide quality food, clean drinking water, and medical assistance at relief camps.
He instructed district administrations to appoint special officers to oversee the camps and to declare holidays for educational institutions in cyclone-prone districts. “Collectors must ensure that no life or property is lost,” Naidu said, urging all government departments to work in full coordination and respond swiftly to any emergencies.
The Chief Minister held a review meeting at the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) control room before connecting with district officials. He asked Collectors to monitor lake and canal embankments closely to prevent breaches and to restrict public movement during the cyclone. He also directed officials to take preventive measures against landslides and accidents in hilly regions like Vijayawada, Mangalagiri, and Visakhapatnam.
District Collectors briefed the Chief Minister on the preparedness status. Nellore Collector Himanshu Shukla informed that heavy rains had already begun in the district and that all precautionary steps were being implemented.
Meanwhile, Home Minister V. Anitha appealed to citizens to act responsibly on social media and refrain from sharing unverified information about the cyclone. She said the state government has been working round-the-clock under the Chief Minister’s directions, ensuring inter-departmental coordination for effective relief and response operations.
Anitha added that special officers have been appointed for high risk districts, control rooms have been established across all regions, and timely updates are being issued through official communication channels.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety, minimizing damage, and maintaining continuous coordination as Cyclone Montha approaches the Andhra coast.
