Andhra Pradesh Set to Spearhead India’s Green Industrial Revolution

Strategic roadmap and Centre-State collaboration aim to transform MSME clusters into drivers of sustainable, energy efficient growth

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself at the forefront of India’s clean industrial transition by rolling out a targeted strategy to cut emissions and boost energy efficiency in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. The initiative reflects a broader shift toward sustainable manufacturing while strengthening economic competitiveness.

At the centre of this effort is the upcoming roadmap by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), operating under the Ministry of Power. The plan builds on successful national programmes such as UJALA, the Street Lighting National Programme, distributed solar solutions, and smart metering systems. Together, these measures are expected to accelerate the adoption of advanced, low-carbon technologies across MSME clusters.

EESL has prepared a comprehensive blueprint tailored specifically for Andhra Pradesh, identifying the State as a critical hub in India’s industrial decarbonisation journey. The framework seeks to convert MSMEs often associated with high energy consumption into sustainable growth engines by combining innovative financing models, scalable interventions, and global best practices.

A major milestone in this transition was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the State’s Industries Department and EESL during the CII Global Summit, held in Visakhapatnam. The agreement, formalised in the presence of MSME Minister Kondapalli Srinivas, is being regarded as a structured model that could be replicated across other States.

According to Akhilesh Kumar Dixit, the initiative represents a significant evolution in policy approach. Instead of isolated interventions, the focus is now on building an integrated ecosystem that empowers MSMEs with access to efficient technologies and financial support. The proposed roadmap, soon to be submitted to the Industries Department, aligns with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s emphasis on leveraging innovation for economic expansion, job creation, and environmental stewardship.

Senior officials have also underscored the State’s readiness to lead in this domain. N Yuvaraj, Principal Secretary of Industries, reiterated Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to emerge as a preferred destination for global investment, supported by sustainable industrial practices. He highlighted the contributions of M Viswa in securing Central assistance through the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises for rolling out energy-efficiency initiatives across key industrial clusters.

The potential impact of the programme is substantial. MSMEs, which account for a large share of industrial energy use, stand to benefit from energy savings estimated at 20–30 percent. This reduction not only lowers operational costs but also cuts carbon emissions, enhances productivity, and improves workplace conditions.

With a proactive policy framework and strong institutional backing, Andhra Pradesh is setting a benchmark for sustainable industrial transformation. The State’s approach demonstrates how coordinated efforts between government agencies and industry stakeholders can accelerate India’s transition toward a cleaner, more resilient manufacturing ecosystem.
