Animal Husbandry distributes 4000 birds among 20 beneficiaries under “Backyard Poultry”

RAMBAN, MARCH 09: Animal Husbandry Department, Ramban, in phase 1st has distributed 4000 birds among 20 eligible beneficiaries selected through a draw of lots from 232 applicants under ‘Backyard Poultry, a centrally sponsored scheme.

The department has provided 200 birds to each beneficiary under LIT-IPPP and NLM at Ramban, Banihal and Gool.

After distributing the birds at Ramban, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Ramban, Dr. Bharat Bhushan informed that the initiative was aimed to enhance poultry production in the district besides addressing stunted growth in poor households, providing nourishment, supplementing family incomes through the sale of organic chicken and eggs, besides creating job opportunities and enabling them to improve their living stander. He said that more 20 selected beneficiaries shall be provided 4000 birds under phase-II in the second week of April.

An amount of rupees 15000 per beneficiary has also been disbursed through DBT among the beneficiaries for construction of night shelter shed, CAHO added.

Dr. Sayar Ahmed also sensitized the beneficiaries about food and nutritional security, livelihood opportunities, sustainable farming besides care and management of chicks.

He expressed the hope that people would get the maximum benefit from the scheme.
