India, Feb 28 : Anna Bright made history on February 27 by becoming the most expensive player ever drafted in Major League Pickleball (MLP). The St. Louis Shock secured Bright in the 2026 draft for a record $1.23 million, guaranteeing her return to the franchise she previously represented.
Bright followed the intense bidding live on her YouTube channel, sharing her real-time reactions. “It is like watching my fate,” she said, reflecting the pressure and excitement of the moment.
The bidding saw fierce competition from the New Jersey 5s and Columbus Sliders. All three teams pushed the price higher, but the Shock ultimately emerged victorious, bringing Bright back to their squad after her mid-February release.
Bright admitted the escalating price added immense pressure. “I have more pressure to play so well. What if I have a bad day? I am going to feel so guilty,” she said. The player likened the adrenaline rush to a bungee-jumping experience, holding an emotional support teddy bear during the nail-biting process.
As the bidding entered the final 30 seconds, the Shock and 5s continued to outbid each other, surpassing the $1 million mark before closing at the record $1.23 million. The figure will go to Major League Pickleball, not directly to Bright.
Celebrating her return, Bright said, “I am on the Shock, baby! Hopefully, I can play well enough that I’m worth that price tag.” Her comeback strengthens the team, which already boasts strong chemistry among players Kate Fahey, Gabe Tardio, and Hayden Patriquin.
Bright’s return also adds new intrigue to MLP, as Anna Leigh Waters will compete for the 5s, while Jorja Johnson joins her. Fans can expect an exciting season with top players competing across rival teams.
“I am a cheap date, but I am expensive to have on your MLP team,” Bright concluded, highlighting both her value and competitive spirit.
