Jammu, 11-01-2025: In a decisive move to combat illegal encroachments, authorities in Jammu launched a large-scale anti-encroachment drive on Saturday, demolishing a dozen unlawfully constructed houses and four plinths in the Sidhra, Majeen, and Rangoora areas. This operation resulted in the retrieval of 10 kanals of land belonging to the Jammu Development Authority (JDA), according to a senior government official. The drive was carried out through coordinated efforts by the JDA, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), district administration, and police.
The targeted areas, including Dingyali, Gulshan Nagar, and Asrarabad within the revenue villages of Majeen and Ragoora, were identified as hotspots for recent encroachments. Despite prior warnings and official notices, land mafias, in collusion with contractors and laborers, persisted in illegal activities, necessitating the stringent action taken by authorities. The demolition of unauthorized structures not only marked a significant victory against encroachments but also delivered a stern warning to encroachers and builders operating in the region.
A senior official involved in the operation highlighted the broader implications of the drive, stating that it serves as a strong deterrent against unlawful construction and underscores the importance of adhering to legal protocols for land use and building permissions. The official further emphasized the necessity for residents to verify land titles and follow proper procedures before initiating any construction activities to avoid punitive actions.
The Vice Chairman of the Jammu Development Authority, Pankaj Sharma, reaffirmed the department’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding public land from unauthorized encroachments. He praised the collaborative efforts of the participating departments and assured the public of continued vigilance and action against such violations in the future. Sharma reiterated the need for responsible construction practices, advising residents against building on acquired JDA land, particularly in Ragoora, Majeen, and Sidhra, as this land has been earmarked for the development of a planned township.
The operation not only reclaimed valuable land for public use but also raised awareness among residents about the legal and procedural requirements for construction. By actively enforcing land regulations, the authorities aim to deter future encroachments and create a sense of accountability among residents and developers. The success of this drive demonstrates the government’s determination to uphold the rule of law and protect public assets for the benefit of the larger community.
