India, July 30 : Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth concluded a two day visit to key military formations in India’s northeastern region, carrying out an extensive review of the security environment, defence preparedness and humanitarian operations. The visit, held on July 28 and 29, highlighted the Indian Army’s continued focus on strengthening operational capabilities while supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and responding to natural disasters.
The tour began with a detailed assessment of the security situation in Manipur, where Gen Seth reviewed the operational readiness of the Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) and the Red Shield Division. Senior military commanders briefed the Army chief on the prevailing conditions, coordination mechanisms and deployment strategies adopted to ensure stability in the sensitive border region.
During the review, Gen Seth evaluated the close coordination between the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles in safeguarding law and order. He appreciated the joint efforts of the security forces in creating a secure environment amid evolving security challenges and stressed the importance of sustained vigilance to maintain normalcy across the state.
Apart from examining military preparedness, the Army chief also witnessed several nation building initiatives undertaken by Army formations and the Assam Rifles. These programmes, aimed at improving community welfare and strengthening public confidence, include educational support, healthcare outreach, infrastructure assistance and various developmental activities benefiting local residents.
Interacting with officers and soldiers deployed in forward locations, Gen Seth praised their professionalism, discipline and dedication while operating under demanding conditions. He acknowledged their commitment to protecting national interests and serving local communities despite difficult terrain and operational challenges.
The visit also included a comprehensive review of ongoing flood relief operations in the northeastern states. Military commanders briefed the Army chief on rescue missions, distribution of relief materials and logistical assistance being provided to flood-affected populations. Gen Seth commended the troops for extending timely humanitarian support and working closely with civil authorities during emergencies.
As part of his itinerary, the Army chief attended the opening ceremony of the Imphal leg of the 135th Indian Oil Durand Cup at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. The event was attended by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister Yumnam K Singh and several senior civil and military officials, reflecting the close cooperation between the armed forces and state administration.
On the second day of the visit, Gen Seth reviewed the operational preparedness of the Dao Division and Spearhead Division. Commanders provided detailed presentations on the prevailing operational environment, strategic deployment and ongoing assistance being extended during flood relief efforts. The Army chief encouraged all ranks to continue supporting the civil administration while remaining prepared for any emerging security challenges.
Officials said the visit reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to maintaining a high level of combat readiness across the Northeast while simultaneously contributing to peace, stability and humanitarian assistance.
