Assam, Oct 30 : The music world continues to mourn the untimely death of iconic Assamese singer composer Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore on September 19 at the age of 52 after reportedly suffering a seizure while swimming. Known for his soulful voice and fearless artistry, Zubeen was more than a musician he was a symbol of Assam’s cultural pride.
In a heartfelt and historic gesture, Assam will suspend all film screenings across the state from October 31, allowing only one film Zubeen Garg’s personal dream project Roi Roi Binale to play in theatres. The move is a collective tribute to the late artist whose songs became woven into the emotional fabric of Assam.
Filmmaker Rajesh Bhuyan, who directed Roi Roi Binale, confirmed that the movie will serve as a posthumous homage to the late legend and will feature Zubeen’s original voice recordings, offering fans one last chance to experience his artistry on the big screen.
According to industry sources, no other films including Thamma, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1, Jolly LLB 3, and The Taj Story will be screened during this period. Even global releases will pause in Assam, underscoring the depth of the state’s admiration for Zubeen.
This rare move has also drawn political support. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi has urged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to declare Roi Roi Binale tax free, calling it a fitting tribute to Zubeen’s immeasurable contribution to Assam’s art and culture.
