US, Sep 20 : Australia is seeking greater cooperation from major technology companies as it prepares new rules covering artificial intelligence and online safety.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese raised the issue during a meeting with Apple executive chairman Tim Cook at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California. Albanese said governments and technology firms would need to work together to address emerging online risks.
Australia plans to introduce new standards for artificial intelligence by the end of 2026. The government is also strengthening measures aimed at protecting children and other users from potential harms linked to online platforms.
