Srinagar, 03-02-2024 : Amidst the weather forecast of moderate to heavy snowfall in the next 48 hours by the Meteorological centre, the specter of avalanches looms over eight districts in Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) has issued avalanche warnings for Bandipora, Baramulla, Ganderbal, and Kupwara in Kashmir, along with Doda, Poonch, and Ramban in the Jammu region, especially above the altitude of 2,400 meters. The warning, categorized at a medium danger level, signifies the potential risk in these areas within the next 24 hours.
In light of the impending danger, residents in these districts are strongly advised to exercise caution and refrain from venturing into areas susceptible to avalanches. The JKDMA emphasizes the importance of taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of individuals residing in the identified high-risk zones.
As Kashmir, including Srinagar, witnessed fresh snowfall on Saturday, the situation is expected to escalate in intensity during the evening.
