24-02-2023 : Ghulam Nabi Azad, the DPAP chairman, has taken legal action against Jairam Ramesh, a Congress general secretary, for allegedly defaming him by calling him a “slave,” “Mir Jafer,” and a “vote-cutter.” Azad’s legal counsel, Naresh Kumar Gupta, sent a legal notice seeking compensation of Rs 2 crore for damaging Azad’s reputation.
The notice accuses Ramesh of intentionally using the name “Ghulam” to mean “slave” and defaming Azad in public. Gupta said Ramesh’s statements are an offense under Section 500 of IPC and have caused mental agony and tarnished Azad’s image irreparably. The notice demands Ramesh to apologize unconditionally through print-electronic media and on social media to Azad within two weeks of receiving the legal notice.
