Balochistan, Dec 04 : Leading Baloch human rights defender Mir Yar Baloch has praised Finland’s decision to shut down its embassy in Pakistan, arguing that the move reflects deepening concerns over Islamabad’s governance failures and a worsening security climate.
The reaction came after Finland’s Foreign Ministry announced on November 28 that its embassies in Islamabad, Kabul and Yangon will close in 2026. The ministry said the closures were driven by “operational and strategic reasons” linked to political instability and limited economic ties.
Mir Yar Baloch said the Finland embassy closure in Pakistan highlights growing international unease. “We commend the Government of Finland for taking this step, which mirrors global concerns about Pakistan’s governance and security environment,” he wrote on X. He urged other nations to reconsider their diplomatic presence wherever “state linked actors misuse platforms or undermine international norms.”
The activist also welcomed Afghanistan’s recent decision to suspend trade and shut the Durand Line crossings, claiming they had long been exploited by Pakistani authorities and the ISI for illicit movements and destabilising activities. He called the move “historic” and a sign of regional resolve to safeguard sovereignty.
Mir further applauded the UAE’s tightening of visa rules amid rising security concerns and criminal networks operating “under the protection or negligence of certain Pakistani state structures.” He cited recent arrests in the Gulf such as a major cattle theft ring involving 13 individuals as evidence of escalating cross border criminal activity.
The activist reiterated long-standing allegations of systemic rights abuses in Balochistan, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, resource plunder and environmental destruction. These, he said, constitute serious violations of international law.
“The world can no longer ignore the suffering of the Baloch people or the predatory actions carried out under Pakistan’s institutions,” Mir said, urging the global community to take a firm stance. He called for international accountability measures and solidarity with those “fighting for justice, dignity, and the right to determine their own future.”
