Balochistan Faces Ongoing Enforced Disappearances Amid Military Operations

Balochistan witnesses fresh cases of enforced disappearances amid military operations, while some previously detained individuals return home.

Enforced disappearances continue unabated in Balochistan as three more individuals reportedly went missing following detention by Pakistani security forces, local sources and families told The Balochistan Post.

On September 27, a late-night raid in Konchati, Dasht, Kech district, led to the disappearance of Altaf, son of Habtain, and Gulab, son of Ayub Baloch. Their whereabouts remain unknown. Two days earlier, on September 25, Saud, son of Haji Rahim, was allegedly taken from his residence in Hairabad, Kech, and has not been seen since.

Amid these new cases, there were reports of releases. Sheeraz, son of Ghulam Qadir from Barkhan, detained on September 20, was released a week later. Siraj, son of Sanjar from Balgatar, taken in Turbat on September 26, was freed the next day. Asghar Karmdani returned to his family after spending three months in custody.

Military operations also continued across the province. In Buleda, Kech district, security forces raided homes in the Gardank area, reportedly firing weapons in residential zones. No injuries were reported. Similarly, in Panjgur district, troops conducted searches in Haji Isa Bazaar, Haji Hakeem Bazaar, and Kadaan, taking photographs and videos of the area, though no arrests were made.

Enforced disappearances have plagued Balochistan for decades, emerging as a persistent human rights crisis. Victims, often young men, are allegedly picked up by security forces, held without charges, and denied contact with families. The lack of accountability continues to fuel public outrage and erode trust in state institutions, despite repeated international condemnation.
