Mumbai, Dec 31 : Scroll. Tap. Watch. Repeat. This is the new rhythm of YouTube, and amidst music videos, comedy clips, and movie snippets, an unusual channel from India has quietly taken the internet by storm. ‘Bandar Apna Dost’ has emerged as the world’s most viewed AI-generated YouTube channel, featuring an animated monkey and a muscular, Hulk-like human character in chaotic, action-packed videos.
According to a recent study by video-editing platform Kapwing, the channel has amassed over 2.07 billion views and more than 2.76 million subscribers within just a few months of launch. Its estimated annual revenue is around $4.25 million (₹35-38 crore).
What is AI Slop?
The channel’s videos belong to a new content category known as AI slop. These videos are entirely generated by artificial intelligence, requiring minimal human effort. They are designed not to tell meaningful stories but to grab attention, keep viewers engaged, and encourage repeat watches essentially “fast food for the brain.”
Kapwing’s analysis of 15,000 top global YouTube channels found 278 channels created entirely with AI slop, collectively garnering 63 billion views and 221 million subscribers. Topping the global list by a wide margin was Bandar Apna Dost.
Why the Channel is Popular
Experts say the appeal lies in its absurd visuals and exaggerated action. Technology researcher Rohini Lakshane told The Guardian that the monkey and muscular hero in over-the-top scenarios are instantly attention-grabbing. The videos are universal — no language is needed, making them accessible to a global audience.
YouTube’s recommendation algorithm also plays a key role. Kapwing’s report notes that over 20% of videos suggested to new users can be classified as AI slop, as the platform rewards content that maximizes watch time and minimizes scrolling.
Impact on Human Creators
While the channel’s success is impressive, critics warn that AI-generated mass content could threaten independent creators, filmmakers, and artists. AI slop is cheap, fast, and scalable advantages human creators cannot match.
The rise of Bandar Apna Dost demonstrates the power of AI in digital entertainment, but it also raises questions about the future of creativity and content designed to please algorithms rather than audiences. For now, the monkey is winning silent, animated, and wealthier than most human YouTubers.
