New Delhi, Feb 5: The government’s multilingual AI engine, BharatGen, is slated to complete its text-based services across all 22 official Indian languages by the end of this month, Union Minister for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Singh said the development of BharatGen is an ongoing process, with the potential to incorporate additional languages and dialects in the future. “We have already completed 15 languages. By the end of this month, all 22 languages will have text capabilities, and 15 of them will also include speech and vision modules,” he added.
Launched in October 2024, BharatGen is a government initiative aimed at creating a sovereign AI platform offering services such as Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text to Speech (TTS) models tailored for Indian languages. Singh provided the update while responding to a question from BJP member Bhubaneswar Kalita, highlighting the government’s push to strengthen AI tools in regional languages.
