Two PMGSY engineers suspended as administration initiates investigation into culvert construction incident in Doda’s Gandoh area

Srinagar, May 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has initiated a formal investigation into the tragic incident that took place during construction work on the Bhargi to Kunan road in Gandoh area of Doda district, while also suspending two engineering officials linked to the project.

According to an official order issued by the Public Works (R&B) Department, Engineer-in-Chief (Secretary Technical) Er. Purshotam Kumar has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident that occurred during the execution of a 6-metre span culvert under the road project.

The administration has directed the inquiry officer to conduct a comprehensive probe and submit a detailed report within 15 days. The investigation will assess technical, administrative and safety aspects associated with the execution of the work.

Pending the outcome of the inquiry, the government has placed two officers under suspension with immediate effect. Those suspended include Er. Naveen Kumar, Incharge Assistant Executive Engineer, and Er. Imtiaz Ahmed Shah, Junior Engineer of PMGSY Division Thathri, Sub Division Gandoh.

As per the order, both officials will remain attached with the Office of the Chief Engineer, PMGSY Jammu during the suspension period and will receive suspension allowance in accordance with existing service rules.

The order was issued by Financial Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary of the Public Works (R&B) Department, Anil Kumar Singh.

The incident has drawn attention towards safety standards and supervision mechanisms in infrastructure projects being executed in remote mountainous regions of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said the inquiry findings are expected to determine accountability and recommend further administrative action if required.
