New Delhi, Oct 10 : The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday officially issued the notification for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, initiating the nomination process for candidates contesting 121 Assembly constituencies. Voting for this phase is scheduled on November 6, 2025.
Under the notification issued by the Bihar Governor as per Section 15(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, candidates can file their nomination papers until October 17. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 18, and candidates wishing to withdraw their nominations can do so by October 20.
Strict security protocols have been put in place at all nomination centres. Only five persons, including the candidate, are allowed to accompany them, and gatherings of supporters outside the centres are prohibited. The entire process will be recorded on camera to ensure transparency.
The ECI has deployed around 8.5 lakh officials across Bihar for the smooth conduct of elections, including 4.53 lakh polling personnel, 2.5 lakh police officers, 28,000 counting staff, and 18,000 micro-observers.
Polling in the first phase will cover districts across North and South Bihar, including Patna, Darbhanga, Madhepura, Saharsa, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Buxar, and Bhojpur. Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Bihar Assembly elections are being conducted in two phases, with the second phase scheduled for November 11, 2025. Counting of votes for both phases will be held on November 14, 2025.
