Accused confesses to crime after police investigation; victims identified as Bihar natives

Jammu, Sept 12: Police have arrested a Bihar resident for allegedly murdering a woman and her two children in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, officials said on Friday.

The crime came to light on Tuesday when police recovered three bodies from beneath a culvert on the highway in Rattanbasti area of Banihal. A forensic team was called in, and an investigation was launched immediately.

During the probe, police identified the prime suspect as Anil Kumar, a resident of West Champaran, Bihar. He was apprehended from Mir Bazar in Kulgam district on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as 30-year-old Dhanmati Devi from East Champaran, Bihar, along with her daughter Suhani Kumari (9) and son Yash Kumar (5).

“Following sustained questioning and analysis of scientific evidence, the accused admitted to committing the crime,” police said, adding that further investigation is underway.

The victims’ bodies, bearing visible injury marks and cloth tied around their necks, were shifted to Banihal hospital for post-mortem examination.
