LUCKNOW, Sept 12: The BJP’s Uttar Pradesh core group held a detailed meeting in Lucknow to review preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections and discuss the party’s upcoming organisational and governance related programmes.
The meeting, held at the BJP’s state headquarters on Friday evening and lasting more than two hours, was attended by BJP national general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh, Uttar Pradesh in-charge Vinod Tawde, co-in-charge Jagdish Patel, state BJP president and Union minister of state Pankaj Chaudhary, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Chaudhary said the leaders discussed preparations for the “Seva Sankalp” and “Sushasan” campaigns, which are scheduled to begin on September 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
“All of us held detailed discussions and made plans regarding preparations, and the Seva Sankalp and Sushasan campaigns starting from September 17,” Chaudhary said.
He said the meeting also covered plans for the state working committee, whose meeting is expected to be convened soon.
“Since I became the state president only recently, we also discussed the state working committee, whose meeting we have to hold very soon,” he said.
The BJP leadership also reviewed the party’s election preparedness and discussed the direction in which its organisation should work in the months leading up to the 2027 polls.
“There was also a discussion from the election perspective about how our preparations are progressing and in which direction we should work in the coming elections,” Chaudhary said.
The meeting assumes significance with Santhosh, who oversees the BJP’s organisational affairs at the national level, visiting Lucknow. Tawde also made his second visit to the Uttar Pradesh capital within a week.
According to party sources, the discussions included strategies to take the benefits of welfare schemes implemented by the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government to the people.
The leadership also discussed issues concerning women and young people, including members of Gen Z, along with initiatives aimed at addressing their concerns and requirements.
The BJP state headquarters witnessed the arrival of several office-bearers and party workers from Friday afternoon ahead of the meeting.
Asked about Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav’s repeated assertion that the SP would form the government in Uttar Pradesh after the 2027 elections, Chaudhary took a jibe at the opposition leader.
“I cannot stop Mungeri Lal from dreaming beautiful dreams,” he said.
Earlier on Friday, BJP Uttar Pradesh chief spokesperson Dinesh Pratap Singh said the party’s organisation and cadre remained central to its functioning, adding that the concerns of all sections would be discussed during the meeting.
Singh said the BJP remained engaged in public service throughout the year and not merely during election periods. He added that meetings involving senior leaders helped energise the cadre and strengthen preparations for future elections.
Taking aim at the opposition, particularly the Samajwadi Party, Singh alleged that the SP and Congress were dependent on each other politically.
“The SP and Congress are playing the role of Vikram and Betaal. Congress cannot even win Amethi and Rae Bareli by riding on the SP’s shoulders,” he said.
Singh also accused the SP of having the worst record of atrocities against Dalits during its tenure in Uttar Pradesh.
He alleged that the opposition parties relied largely on press conferences and social media rather than public service, saying their activities amounted to “drama” rather than constructive political work.
