BJP seeks urgent action from Kashmir administration on encroached properties of displaced Kashmiri Pandits

Party delegation meets deputy commissioners, demands retrieval of illegally occupied KP temple lands

Jammu, Dec 4: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the district administrations across the Kashmir Valley to take swift and concrete action to remove illegal encroachments from properties and temple lands belonging to displaced Kashmiri Pandits (KPs). Party officials said repeated complaints filed by displaced families have gone unresolved for years, prompting the leadership to intervene directly.

According to BJP leaders, the party’s Kashmir Displaced District (KDD), led by district president Rajeev Pandita, held a series of extensive meetings with Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar, Anantnag and Pulwama, as well as senior revenue authorities in Kupwara and Baramulla. The meetings focused on long-pending complaints related to land seizures, occupation of residential properties, and encroachment of temple and community assets.

A BJP spokesperson said the outreach aimed at ensuring accountability and pressing for administrative action. “Displaced Kashmiri Pandits have filed numerous complaints about their encroached properties and temple lands in different districts but have not received satisfactory resolutions. The meetings were held to ensure that these concerns are no longer ignored,” the spokesperson noted.

Rajeev Pandita said the discussions were centred on the illegal occupation of land belonging to displaced families and religious trusts, fulfilling a commitment made earlier to the KP community. He emphasised that safeguarding these assets was essential to preserving the cultural and historical identity of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley.

In addition to the property-related grievances, the delegation also raised issues concerning the welfare and security of PM Package employees and the safety of non-displaced KPs who continue to live and work in Kashmir. Many of these employees have repeatedly expressed concerns regarding their safety and working conditions amid sporadic incidents of targeted violence.

Pandita described the series of meetings as a “significant step” in the ongoing efforts to retrieve illegally occupied KP assets and address the broader concerns of the community. He asserted that the BJP’s Kashmir Displaced District will maintain constant dialogue with the administration until the issues of encroachment, property restoration, and the security of KP families are resolved in full.

He said the party is committed to ensuring that justice is delivered and that the rights of the displaced community are upheld without further delay.
