BJP’s self-centered and opportunistic approach towards J&K People: Rattan Lal Gupta

Slams Saffron Party for misleading  and betraying the people on development front

JAMMU June 14th: J&K National Conference today criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its self-centered and opportunistic approach towards the people of J&K. Gupta emphasized that the Saffron Party has shown no concern for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and their aspirations.

In a statement issued here today, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of JKNC criticized the government at the Centre for misleading and betraying the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the name of development. He said that the BJP claims to have developed the UT but the ground realities are in stark contrast to their claims. The people are still grappling with issues like lack of basic civic amenities, poor infrastructure, unemployment, etc.”

Rattan Lal expressed grave concern over the lack of basic amenities in the region, which is the fundamental right of every citizen of the country. He said that the situation across the Jammu region has deteriorated to such an extent that women/ Children are demonstrating on the roads due to the scarcity of drinking water. Several protests have been witnessed from Lakhanpur to Rajouri, Poonch, and even the so-called parts of the capital Smart City due to the water scarcity with people decrying for basic amenities.

The senior NC leader criticized the government for working without any planning and laying water distribution pipes without having a source of drinking water and the works of most of the water supply schemes are stopped or left incomplete due to the non-availability of funds in the region especially the kandi belt of Jammu, Samba, and Kathua causing people to suffer significantly.

The senior NC leader raised serious concerns about the dismal condition of the power scenario the regular supply of which always remained affected due to substandard transformers, wires and other material used in the power distribution system. So far the health sector is concerned that too is in a very bad condition. The public health centers and village dispensaries across the region are facing an acute shortage of doctors. He said that in rural areas, the health centers are being run by paramedics, putting people at the mercy of God.

Furthermore, he also pointed out that the road conditions in the Jammu region are in deplorable condition, causing daily accidents and the loss of precious lives. The Jammu to Sunderbani and Kalakote roads are in poor condition.Likewise, the road conditions of Chenab Valley are also in bad shape and also accidentally prone areas.

Lastly, he raised serious concern over the damages caused by the recent earthquake in the Pir Panjal Range and Chenab Valley caused great loss to the people and urged the government to provide adequate compensation to the affected people.

The Provincial President criticized the BJP for not holding elections to end the political stalemate in the UT, adding that the BJP’s approach to the UT has been purely opportunistic and self-centered. The Saffron Party has shown no interest in the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir he said.
