Mumbai, Feb 17 : Trouble has struck Ranveer Singh’s upcoming spy thriller Dhurandhar 2 before its March 19 release. The film’s production banner, B62 Studios, has been permanently blacklisted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) due to repeated on-set safety and protocol violations.
BMC action and blacklisting
The Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) Zone I approved blacklisting not only B62 Studios but also two individuals associated with the film, Komal Pokhriyal and Nasir Khan. The trio is now barred from applying for any filming permissions in Mumbai under the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation Limited. Notices will be issued to the applicants, with copies sent to the Maharashtra Film Cell and the BMC Business Cell.
Penalties and violations
BMC has proposed a ₹1 lakh monetary penalty and recommended forfeiting a ₹25,000 security deposit. Officials cited unauthorised use of a building terrace for filming, deployment of two generator vans without approval, and repeated flouting of safety rules, particularly regarding crackers and flammable materials. Previous warnings and deposit forfeitures on February 7 and 8 reportedly failed to stop the violations.
Midnight shoot incident
Despite restrictions, the production applied for a late-night shoot from 12:30 am to 4 am on February 14. Conditional permission was granted with strict riders, including ensuring no flammable materials were used and obtaining clearance from the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee. Within 15 minutes of the shoot starting, authorities received complaints that torches were being lit on set. Mumbai police subsequently seized five torches (mashals).
Public safety concerns
The A Ward office highlighted that the repeated breaches posed serious risks to public safety. The unauthorised use of flammable materials and shooting in public areas at odd hours prompted the final decision to blacklist the production house and levy penalties.
The blacklisting underscores the BMC’s strict stance on public safety and adherence to filming regulations, casting a shadow over Dhurandhar 2 ahead of its anticipated release.
