JALANDHAR, Sept 30: Security agencies in Jalandhar were put on alert on Wednesday after authorities received an email threatening bomb attacks at several locations, including schools, the venue of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally, Devi Talab temple and the court complex, officials said.
A police officer said technical teams were examining the message to determine its source and establish whether the threat was genuine.
Security arrangements were intensified at key locations across the city, particularly around the rally venue and Devi Talab temple, ahead of Shah’s scheduled visit.
The Union Home Minister is set to address a public meeting at Paragpur village in Jalandhar as part of the concluding programme of the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’.
The campaign, which began on September 18, passed through all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab and covered around 4,000 kilometres before reaching Jalandhar on Tuesday.
Police officials said the threatening email specifically named schools, the public meeting venue, the temple and the court complex as possible targets.
The latest alert follows a series of similar bomb threat messages reported in Punjab and Haryana in recent months. Authorities have investigated several such incidents, with earlier threats subsequently found to be hoaxes.
Security agencies are continuing their inquiry into the latest message while maintaining heightened vigilance at the locations identified in the email.
