Kolkata, March 11 – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday evening visited former Governor CV Ananda Bose at Soujanya, a state government guest house for visiting dignitaries, calling his resignation “an injustice” and politically motivated ahead of elections.
Bose Chooses Soujanya Over Raj Bhavan
Bose, who recently returned from Delhi after resigning, opted not to stay at Raj Bhavan. Instead, he was accommodated at Soujanya, with Raj Bhavan staff organizing a farewell for him at the Indian Museum. Speaking on the visit, Banerjee said: “He faced injustice. He has been wronged. This is politically motivated. He was removed ahead of polls, with a year and a half of his term left.”
Courtesy Visit Following Five Day Dharna
Banerjee visited Bose after concluding her five day dharna at Esplanade, describing the call as a matter of courtesy. She added: “Our former governor was here for a long time. I knew him and his family well. We had worked together. I wish him well.”
The CM also explained her decision to offer Soujanya instead of a hotel for Bose’s stay: “This is a state facility for visiting dignitaries and diplomats. He has self respect and faced injustice, so it was appropriate.”
Incoming Governor RN Ravi to Be Sworn In
The new Bengal governor designate RN Ravi, a former IPS officer, is expected to arrive on Wednesday afternoon. He will be sworn in at Raj Bhavan on Thursday morning by Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Sujoy Paul. Raj Bhavan officials confirmed that all arrangements for his welcome are ready.
Banerjee, who had earlier criticized the Centre for not consulting her on the appointment, is also expected to attend the swearing in ceremony.
